Rationalist vs. Puritans

There is a big difference between the Puritans and the Rationalists. Unlike the Puritans, the Rationalist needed an explaination for the reason why things happen not "just because God made it happen." Rationalist believed that anything could be explained through some type of science. Puritans thought that God was the reason why anything and everything happened and that if they tried to change it God would not save them. Today people believe that you should be punished for being drunk in public and for having sexual relations outside of marriage, the Puritans believed that same. There are Rationalists in the United States today. There is a group from Tennessee called The Rationalists of East Tennessee and this group has many things they would like to accomplish things such as encourage critical thinking on all aspects of human life, emphasize the importance of the scientific method and provide a fellowship for people who share these purposes. The Rationalists wanted to do the same.
